Ghulam Nabi Azad, Union Health Minister, has expressed his strong fear over the shortage of doctors and infrastructure in the NE region.
However, he praised the work done by Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi and State Health Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma in the medical region.
Mr. Azad also promised all possible help from the Centre to the State government.
While talking to reporters, he said, “There were problems of specialized manpower in most of the NE states and there was a need to rationalize the available work force so that maximum facilities were made functional at each level and services were available to remote areas.”
The Union Health Minister was on his official visit to Nagaon Civil Hospital in the state. During his visit, Mr. Azad promised establishment of well-equipped ICUs in the hospital, and told the state health minister to provide healthy financial support for development of infrastructure and other facilities in the district hospital.
In an un-official interview, Mr. Azad told reporters about Centre’s decision to open some private medical colleges in the state with the help of state governments, especially in NE region.
