Japanese car-maker, Nissan Motor has finally disclosed the first sketch of its global compact car. The company has planned to manufacture its first ever compact car in five countries including India, Thailand and China. The company has not announced the names of other two countries.
The company also said that the production of its new compact car will start in May 2010 in India. The car will be manufactured at a Nissan Plant opening shortly at Oragadam in Chennai.
While addressing media, Managing Director and CEO of Nissan Motor India, Kiminobu Tokuyama said, “We are serious and committed in our plans for India, and are all excited as we gear up to start production in May 2010. It is a proud moment for us today as we reveal the first sketch of our global compact car. We are confident that the car which will be manufactured locally in Chennai will delight the discerning Indian customers.”
The company has decided to manufacture at least one million vehicles from the five plants. It also plans to ship out 110,000 units from India. Nissan plans to avail the car in more than 150 countries.
Nissan considers India as its global sourcing hub for auto components. About 60% of the components that would be used in three models are interchangeable, and provides huge competitive component sourcing opportunity for Nissan.
