Volvo kicks off its IT Control Center in Bangalore

Volvo IT has kicked off its new global command center in India. The newly inaugurated IT center in Bangalore will direct and support infrastructure, networks and computers remotely for different units of the Volvo Group.

During the opening ceremony of IT center, Mr. Satish Rajkumar, Head of Volvo IT India said, “Volvo IT India will play an even more important role in the future as a part of our ´right sourcing strategy´ which means consolidating IT specialist skills from different locations to create an optimized and global organization for production of IT services. We will recruit people and work closely with our partners and suppliers in India to drive this development.”

The newly opened IT center looks like a space control center, with system alerts showed on several 80 inch wide-screen monitors that jointly forms one gigantic screen. 40 operators can sit together in an office and all the operators have received special training to handle any system or network issue.

Mr. Rajkumar also said, “Before the move to consolidate the operation in one location, Volvo had staff at each of these locations delivering the services. Problems will still be referred to local country teams if they cannot be resolved by the command center.”

The company has been running its IT infrastructure for the last four years in India. It also holds application development in India. Volvo has almost 120 employees in India and around 400 staff was placed by contractors. The newly inaugurated IT center in Bangalore has 80 employees, and 30 staff from contractor
