South-west monsoon has entered in the departure phase, which shows an end of this season’s monsoon. According to the report released by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the country has received 22% less rain this season and half of the country faces shortfall of rain.
Talking to media, an official from IMD said, “'The southwest monsoon has withdrawn from many parts of Rajasthan Friday and is likely to withdraw from some more parts of northwest India, including Delhi, during the next three to four days.”
The IMD report said that out of 36 meteorological sub-divisions, the cumulative seasonal rainfall from June 1 to Sep 23 was excess in two, ordinary in 12 and lacking in 22 sub-divisions.
While talking in percentage terms, only 9% part of India received excess rainfall, 35% received standard rains, 49% deficient rain and 7% received insufficient rainfalls in this monsoon season.
In the mean time, a late surge in rainfall has raised hopes for the Rabi crop.
