BharatMatrimony.com Sues Google for Trademark Infringement

Google Inc is again in trouble as the owner of an Indian matrimony website has alleged that the online search engine is using its ads on their site to sell space.

The case was filed by BharatMatrimony.com, one of the leading matrimony website of the country, owned by Consim Info.

In the case, which has been registered in the Madras High Court, it disclosed that when a user does a search with the keyword BharatMatrimony, Google shows ads of its competitor websites like Shaadi.com.

While talking to media, CEO of Consim, Murugavel Janakiraman said, “This certainly translates into loss of business for us. Google was not doing the right thing by allowing advertisers to bid for Consim trademarks through its advertising platform, Google AdWords.”

He said that the case has been registered with the aim of stopping such thing in the future course of action. BharatMatrimony.com also gained in the same way each time when a search is conducted for Shaadi.com.

After hearing the case, judge G Rajasuria ordered Google India not to include the trademarks of Bharatmatrimony in their AdWords.
