Madhya Pradesh sugar traders to go on strike from Oct 1

Irritated sugar traders of Madhya Pradesh have decided to go on indefinite strike from Oct 1. The state sugar traders have taken the decision to protest against the state government’s move to confiscate the commodity from wholesalers and introducing license from them.

While talking to media, Mr. Ramesh Khandelwal, President of Madhya Pradesh Sugar Traders Federation said, “All the wholesales and retail sugar traders have decided to stop doing business indefinitely from October 1 in protest against state government officials' raids and seize, of the sweetner, which is going to the auctioned.”

In addition to this, traders also stopped to carry fresh sugar from the mills since Sunday and they also informed all the transporters and brokers not to load fresh stock.

After launching a sugar control order in August, the government conducted several raids in the state and seized more than 80,000 quintals of sugar. .

Mr. Khandelwal said that all traders are quite unhappy with the government’s decision to auction the sugar seized during the raids.

On the other hand, Food and Civil Supplies Minister, Mr. Paras Chandra Jain said, “We have already allowed traders to stock 2,000 quintals of sugar and a reasonable profit margin. No action was taken against licensed traders.”
