The incident took place at Netaji Subhash Chandra International Airport in Kolkata. A Port Blair-bound Air India flight took off without 25 passengers. All the 25 passengers had confirmed their tickets but the plane did not have the sitting capacity for them.
Talking to media, an Air India official said, “The incident took place today (Saturday) morning when IC 287 had to take off without 25 passengers. Originally we were supposed to operate a 320 Airbus which has the capacity of 145 passengers. But due to some operational reasons we could not use Airbus 320. We used Airbus 319 which has the capacity of 120 passengers. Thus, 25 passengers were stranded.”
In the mean time, passengers hold protest against the incident at the airport.
Later, all the 25 passengers along with 15 more were sent to Port Blair by a JetLite flight. An official said, “The remaining 10 passengers will be sent tomorrow (Sunday) morning by our flight. Now they are staying in a city hotel completely at our cost.”
