Land Acquisition Bill sanctioned by Cabinet, says C P Joshi

As per a statement came from India’s Rural Development Minister, C P Joshi, a Bill to offer acquisition of land for industrial projects and SEZs has been sanctioned by the Cabinet. The Bill will be presented in the Parliament after getting permission from the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.

Talking on this, C P Joshi said, “As far as the Land Acquisition Bill is concerned, it has already been approved by the Cabinet. Now, the question when it will be introduced in Parliament has to be addressed by the Parliamentary Affairs Ministry.”

However, the cabinet has not declared any such decision in its briefing. Earlier, certain proposals were opposed by Trinamool Congress Chief and Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee, whose party is the second largest constituent of the UPA.

Banerjee opposed the major part of the Bill, which offers private developers to get 70% of land directly from farmers and land owners and only 30% to be acquired by the state government under the industrial project.

Banerjee, who was in the front position of agitations in Singur and Nandigram in West Bengal on the same issue, had strongly recommended to check-out the usage of money and human power by private developers while acquiring land from farmers.
