In a tragic incident, five girls were killed in a stampede at a school in the national capital, Delhi. At least 27 others were critically injured in the incident.
The incident occurred in Government Senior Secondary School in Khajuri Khas area, when the pupils were asked to come out of their classrooms after a false alarm of an electric short-circuit.
In an interview, Joint Commissioner of New Delhi, Mr. Dharmendra Kumar said, “Five girl students were killed in the incident while 32 students were injured.”
However, all the injured students were immediately taken to Guru Tegh Bahadur Hospital.
Mr. Kumar told, “There was a stampede as some of the children on the first floor were asked to come down and others were asked to go up and apparently the staircase was very narrow. Most of the children got stuck there.”
But, there was no official verification on this.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dixit is on her way to the hospital to see the injured students.
