Nokia, the world’s largest mobile phone seller company, has decided to introduce its push email service in India by the end of 2009.
The push email service is named as Nokia Messaging.
Nokia has been undertaking experiments for push email service in India since April, and now the company is in the process of getting the green signal from the Indian Department of Telecommunications (DoT).
Nokia Messaging service is introduced by Nokia to compete with Canadian smartphone maker Research In Motion’s (RIM) through their Blackberry service.
Nokia Messaging service would challenge similar services offered by RIM through their Blackberry devices.
Mr. Vineet Taneja, Nokia India director (marketing) said in a statement that India figures among the biggest nations internationally in terms of the number of users for Nokia Messaging Service even in the trial stage.
Further, Mr. Taneja said, “We plan to launch the service by the year-end. We are in advance stages of discussion with different operators, whereby consumers will get the service through an operator plan.”
Nokia’s push email service is presently accesible from more than 20 Nokia smartphones that run on the Symbain S60 platform. This includes the E Series handsets, 5800 XpressMusic, N97 and N86, among others.
