Virgin, Spice bid for MTNL's 3G

MTNL recently declared that they were searching a partner in order to market their 3G services in India.

The reaction to this venture has been less than impressive.

According to sources, only two companies filled including Richard Branson’s Virgin Group and BK-Modi’s Spice have submitted their bids to market Mahanagar Telephone Nigam (MTNL) 3G services in two telecom circles Mumbai and Delhi.

MTNL’s plan to launch 3G services, proved to be a great failure as they only managed to gain only1000 customers in the National Capital in the first six months.

The decision to accept the franchisee approach was to pass on the marketing and sales responsibilities on the partner. The franchisee will be given a target, which is to be achieved within the given time.

Private mobile service organizations in the country are not yet allowed to launch their 3G services.
