According to the sources, Indian Ministry of Telecommunications would organize a meeting on August 28, 2009 of telecom service providers to discuss the possible threat caused by the service providers' use of Chinese-made equipment, particularly in border regions.
Equipment from Chinese vendors are a strict no no in border states, Telecom Secretary Siddartha Behura told chief executive officers of mobile service providers comprising Airtel, Reliance, BSNL and Vodafone.
Mr. Behura also ordered them to use all necessary steps to boost nation's security.
Talking to media, Minister of State (MoS) for Telecom Sachin Pilot "Whatever prudent decision is jointly recommended by Ministries of Home Affairs and Communication and IT, the government will not hesitate to take it as no government can ever compromise on its internal as well as external security.”
According to an Indian Intelligence Agency, Chinese companies could implant some secret features into their equipment allowing Chinese telecom companies to launch network attack on the equipment terminal.
Some telecom operators have bought network equipments from Huawei and ZTE in the past.
