Minister of State for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh, on Tuesday, has said that India is likely to imitate China for their approach to deal with air and water pollution.
China has used scientific technology and management controls to check the emission of waste gases and liquids in the environment.
Ramesh also told that China has agreed to propose India as a member of the league, which is researching on issues of climate control. This league has China, Japan and Korea as members.
Ramesh also praised the Chinese Academy of Research on Environmental Sciences. He has been astonished by success of Chinese in cleaning up their lakes and rivers specially Yangtze river, by implementing advanced modern technology.
His ministry has decided to send two delegations for study of Chinese methods for dealing with industrial pollution and cleaning of lakes and rivers. The primary focus of the Indian teams would be the kind of technologies implemented by China in environmental field.
The minister said that china’s approach is more scientific than ours.
He also added that India has not obtained significant results even though hundreds of crore has been spent on cleaning up the Ganga and Yamunna.
India and China have agreed on a deal to work together in various fields of climate change. Another deal for combined research on Tibetan Plateau will also be signed by the authorities of both nations.
The minister has also invited Chinese environment scientists to take part in a conference of the Indian Science Congress in Shillong in January. He has also visited a power plant near Beijing and got impressed by the high degree of maintenance and housekeeping.
