India reaches WI, Dhoni confident to win ODI series

After its disastrous show at the T20 World Cup, the 16-member Indian team led by skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni reached Jamaica (West Indies) to play a four-match ODI series against the West Indies starting on June 26.

Speaking with the media persons after the team’s arrival, the Indian skipper said, “I think it's going to be a competitive cricket (series) and we are looking forward to it.”

West Indies under their new skipper Chris Gayle have performed well in the Twenty20 World Cup after an unremarkable show against England in the ODI’s and Test series.

The Indian team will be without batting whiz Sachin Tendulkar, opening batsman Virender Sehwag, middle-order batsman Suresh Raina and pacer Zaheer Khan.

However, coach Gary Kirsten do feel that in the absence of experienced players, the young guns have got a golden chance to prove their skills.

''You're always going to miss them because they are great players, but it's a great opprtunity for a tour of this nature for young players to show what they're made of,'' said the Indian coach.

India will play four-match ODI series against West Indies.

The first two one-dayers will be played at Sabina Park, Kingston on June 26 and 28 and the last two at Beausejour Stadium, Gros Islet, St Lucia on July 3 and 5.
