Viru May Miss Champions Trophy In SA

Here’s another setback for the Indian cricket team.

According to some media reports, explosive opening batsman Virender Sehwag could miss the Champions Trophy beginning September 24 as he would be out of action for 12-16 weeks following a surgery on his shoulder.

It is learnt that the right handed batsman will go through rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He will be monitored by Indian team's physiotherapist Nitin Patel.

Sehwag, popularly known as Viru, was ruled out of the Twenty20 World Cup without playing a single match.

Sehwag's shoulder will be evaluated 10 weeks after the operation to check whether he can throw a ball.

It should be noted here that the opener from Delhi sustained the injury during Delhi Daredevil's IPL semi-final against Deccan Chargers on May 21.

Moreover, the suspense over Sehwag’s injury during the T20 World Cup led to reports of a split between him and Indian skipper MS Dhoni.
