Mumbai Police Have Taken Stern Action by Imposing MCOCA

The terror attacks in various cities have targeted the population not only physically but also emotionally and have

brought normal life to a stand still. The Mumbai police have booked 20 persons arrested in connection with various attacks in

the country since 2005 with Maharashtra Control of Organized Crime Act (MCOCA), IPC Arms Act, Unlawful Activities (Prevention)

Act, Information Technology Act along with Sec 121 of the IPC for 'waging a war against the state’. The tougher and stern Law

(MCOCA) allows the police to carry out detailed investigation and prepare a charge sheet within 180 days as compared to the

regular 90 days, meanwhile also ask for maximum period of police custody. To quote a part of the remand plea” The organization

(Indian Mujahideen) deliberately and intentionally outraged religious feelings of Hindus, and there-by created fear and

communal tension between Hindu-Muslim communities and it has shown disregard to the police force to cause fear in public and

also induced offence against public tranquility".

According to the police Mohammed Mansoor Asgar Peerbhoy and three others had attended hacking lectures at Hotel Katharia in

Hyderabad in March 2007.IT is known that Rs26 lakhs worth transactions took place through Hawala to fund the recent serial

blasts. Further more, Commisioner of Police Ashok Duraphe charged the IM for threatening senior police officers of the Anti-

Terrorist Squad (ATS), the Gujarat Police, the DGP (Director General of Police) etc.The Remand stated that after the arrest of

Afzal Usmani, there was a breakthrough in the Ahmedabad and Surat bomb blast cases through 'tactful' interrogation following

the arrest of the others involved. The Remand also alleged that the "organized crime syndicate” gained "pecuniary benefits” or

other benefits from wanted accused, Aamir Raza based in Pakistan. The police also asked for prolonged custody so as to

carry out investigations to find the other accused namely Riyaz and Iqbal Bhatkal ,Aamir Raza,Abu Rashid Iqlaq Shaikh and also

to find out the main source from where weapons and ammunition is acquired. This Brave step taken by the Mumbai police will

definitely uproot IM operation in India to some extend.
