GFH Plans to Erect Syrian Islamic Investment Unit for $326 Million
Plans of setting up a $326 Million unit in Syria, Bahrain's Gulf Finance House intends to come up with Islamic investment bank in order to elevate revenues in a banking market which is almost unused.
This investment bank is intended to get fee income in a year. Local investors will fund 10% while GFH along with other financial bodies will offer 60% of funds for the budding bank. It was stated that Approval from the Central Bank is anticipated and the remaining 30% of Syria Finance House in an IPO will be proposed to the public.
30 pct boost in cancer survival by Sanofi drug
Sanofi-Aventis' experimental chemotherapy drug Jevtana gave a 30 per cent boost to the survival rate of men with prostate cancer whose tumors no longer respond to standard treatment.
Prospects of the drug are bright and the drug might be able to offset the French drugmaker's loss of patent protection on its existing blockbuster cancer medicine Taxotere later this year following these results based on an international Phase III clinical trial.
Drinking ups prostate cancer risk
Consuming alcoholic beverages might lead to increased chances of getting prostate cancer, Lionel L. Bañez, MD, at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N. C. and colleagues stated post research.
It was stated that among men there was a 2.46 times more chances of getting prostate cancer if they had three drinks regularly every week.
About 334 men undergoing prostate biopsy at Durham Veterans Affairs Medical Center from 2007 to 2009 were enrolled for a study.
Coffee reduces heart rhythm disturbances
There have been several findings that state cutting down on coffee is good for health but a recent research states that doing the other way round will lead to decreasing risks of being hospitalized for heart rhythm disturbances.
According to the US researchers consuming about four or more cups of coffee per day reduced the risk of being hospitalized for disturbances to their heart rhythm by 18 per cent lower risk of being hospitalised, and people who had one to three cups had a 7 per cent reduced risk.
Dana Discovers Two New Gases in Egypt
Dana Gas announced the discovery of two new gases in Egypt on Sunday. It had acquired Canada's Centurion International by paying C$1.15 billion, in November 2006.
The 6th largest producer of gas made its first discovery at El Panseiya-1 west of the El Manzala concession. Its next discovery was South Faraskour-1, which was also associated with west of the El Manzala concession. A statement issued by the company said that both of its discoveries are likely to get associated to its El Wastani gas processing plant, this year.
Coffee-Drinkers Not Much Prone to Arrhythmia
According to a report presented at the American Heart Association's Conference on Cardiovascular Disease Epidemiology and Prevention, excessive coffee-drinking does not add much to the risk of Arrhythmia.
The report was led by Dr. Arthur Klatsky, a Senior Consultant in Cardiology at Kaiser Permanente Division of Research in Oakland, Calif.
He found that all those patients who took coffee not less than four times a day, were just 18% less prone to a disturbed heart pulse than those who did not take coffee at all.

The official figures published on Friday revealed that the U. K. factory gate prices registered a climb at their fastest rate in 14 months in the year to February and at more than double their average rate compared to the past decade.

New Proposals to be Voted at FSA Board Wednesday Meeting
